6 SIMPLE STEPS TO CREATE NEW HABITS

What I have learned through the fascinating research from people who inspire me, from my own life and the life of my clients I can share 6 steps I follow that truly work! These steps will make it better to understand what it takes for you to create a new habit – to transform your life!
 
  1.  You must know your GOAL. What do your outcome to be?
  2. You must know your WHY! Whys are all of the reasons  that will drive you to perform the action step every day in order to transform your life. Write as many whys as possible ! And then write some more. Go deep!
  3. You must create a your new IDENTITY . You must believe you are the person already that you are trying to create. You can’t fool yourself here it’s all about the ….emotions which brings us to step 4.
  4. EMOTIONS create thoughts, which create actions. Visualize it! Feel the emotions you will feel when your desired outcome is achieved. When its you! See it, Feel it, Be it!
  5. ACTION. choose ONE SIMPLE STEP at the time & Repeat it Daily. Repetition is the key here!
  6. TIMING & CONNECTION! Connect the new step to something you are already doing at certain phase (morning, afternoon, evening) of the day or certain time of the day ( after dinner, after brushing teeth, after exercise)
When is it a habit ? When it becomes automatic. When you don’t need reminders, sticky notes, and don’t need to think about it.
 
It’s also good to be honest with yourself about where you are in your life, whether the new habit is really aligned with where you currently are in your life.
 
I had been wanting to learn the Italian for many years. I had started a couple of times, but always quit. Until now! I wasn’t really ready before. Few years back, I was running my own business, my daughter was homeschooled, plus a whole list of other things. “You can do it all but not all at once”, is what I once read and it was clear to me! It’s not the right time.
Until now…
I have always loved the language and felt connection to Italy but I struggle with learning languages. ( ok here I have to change the identity …see number 3.? …the truth is, I am still working on it 😉)
 
Here is what I have been doing now following my 6 steps, that I am ready to create my new habit of leanring Italian so I can speak this summer when I go to Europe.
  1.  I want to be able to converse in Italian when I go visit this summer.
  2. I love Italian language, I want to feel at home when I am there, I want be able to explore and talk to the older generation that may not speak English , I want to learn more about the culture through their language, …
  3. It’s easy and fun for me to speak Italian.
  4. Well this one is all about closing my eyes and seeing myself there and speaking, feeling great, creating the image in my mind and feeling it…
  5. Every morning I take one lesson in Duolingo app
  6. Every morning after my exercise I walk outside to see the sunlight and take one lesson of Italian in Duolingo.  And this is the big one! I already exercise every morning and I love it.  I already stand outside in the sun light after my exercise, so I connected the Italian to two habits I already do without thinking. For these two reasons adding one more habit, like Italian learning is much easier and I am giving myself a better chance of succeeding!
